Club Car Precedent Golf Cart Review

The Club Car Precedent is one of the most well-known and widely used golf carts in the industry, built by Club Car. Originally introduced as a successor to the DS model, the Precedent quickly became a staple on golf courses, resorts, and private properties due to its durability, simplicity, and long-term reliability.

Available in both 2-passenger and 4-passenger configurations, the Precedent is designed more for dependability than luxury. It features a rust-proof aluminum frame, straightforward mechanical systems, and a design that prioritizes ease of maintenance and longevity over modern tech features.

While newer carts have surpassed it in technology and comfort, the Precedent remains a strong choice for buyers who value proven reliability and lower ownership costs.

Interior & Seating

The Precedent’s interior is simple and functional. Seating is comfortable for short trips but lacks the premium bolstering found in newer carts. The 4-passenger setup adds practicality, while the 2-seater remains ideal for golf-focused use.

Technology & Instrumentation

Technology is minimal by modern standards. Most Precedents feature basic instrumentation, but the platform supports a wide range of upgrades—from digital displays to Bluetooth sound systems and lithium battery conversions.

Convenience & Utility

Where the Precedent shines is in its versatility. It can be easily modified for:

  • Passenger transport
  • Utility/cargo use
  • Street-legal conversions

Its massive aftermarket support makes it one of the most customizable golf carts available.

Precedent Consumer Rating

Such a Reliable Ride

April 6, 2026

The Precedent definitely shows its age in a few areas. The ride quality is fine but not particularly refined, especially compared to newer carts with upgraded suspension systems. Technology is minimal unless it’s been upgraded, most stock models feel pretty basic inside, with simple controls and limited features. One of the biggest advantages, though, is how customizable the Precedent is. There’s a massive aftermarket for these carts, so it’s easy to upgrade things like the battery (especially to lithium), add lighting kits, improve seating, or even convert it into a street-legal setup. That flexibility makes it a great platform if you want something you can gradually improve over time.

Overall, the Club Car Precedent isn’t the most modern or feature-packed cart out there, but it’s one of the most dependable. If you’re looking for something reliable, easy to maintain, and widely supported, it’s still a very solid choice, especially on the used market. It’s not exciting, but it’s consistent, and for a lot of buyers, that’s exactly what matters.
